View topic - Your Best of 2011 Games

Just wondering, what would you all consider your picks of best games of the year (that you've actually played)?
It doesn't have to be a ranked list with just one game on top, just some of the favourites you played that came out this year?

Personally, I didn't buy as many games this year as I'd have liked to, but out of what I bought, I would definitely put Batman Arkham City and Portal 2 rather high up on my list. Also Mass Effect 2 (on PS3, thus out just this year).

There were some, also, that I would've loved if they'd have been better, but by no means worst of the year or so, either (DA2, AssCreed:Revelations).

So yea, how about you?

Skyward Sword, for sure (but a lot of it had to do with 5 years of anticipation.)
Portal 2 was also one of my favorites this year. I haven't gotten to play Arkham City though, and I would like to.

your cat died.

I think Portal 2 is the top of my list.

But I don't really buy a lot of games when they first came out so I haven't played a lot of 2011 games this year. ^^;

I was mostly a pc gamer this year, and I think there were a lot of great games released this year. Of the ones I could play, I found these to be the most memorable. smile

Magicka
Bastion
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Terraria
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Cave Story+ (Cave Story's been around since 2004-ish, but was given some new graphics/music and re-released on Steam this year.)

I want to say Trine 2, since the first Trine was magical, but I'm holding off on playing it until I find a co-op partner.

Not sure if I should include Minecraft since it's been around forever but was officially "released" this year.

I didn't get many games this year, although I wouldn't count DAII as a disappointment. It wasn't as good as the first in a few aspects but it was still a good game. I can't say I had any this year I was disappointed by really.

Still many of this years games for me to play.

Uncharted 3 is on top for me.
Catherine.
Alice:Madness Returns.
Dead Island<-This wouldn't be on here, it's a good game but not best of 2011, I just haven't gotten to play AC Revelations or Skyrim yet.

Ebbe owns my soul.
I've missed out on a number of games as well, partly by choice, in other cases due to money and other restraints (e.g. I just only started playing Uncharted 1, so I didn't play 3, Catherine isn't out here yet, Dead Island won't be released here and I meant to buy games like L.A. Noire and Alice: Madness Returns, but lacked the cash).

I still have to play Bastion and Magicka x'D I have them both installed, just never got around to it.

Lateralus;
I would by no means say that DA2 was a BAD game. I hold to the thought that it wouldn't gain as much disdain from me if it didn't have the DA title on it.
But being a DA game... well, while graphically and such it was nice, the control over equipment and such was scaled down too much, the lack of being able to choose a race stung. I found the pacing to be awkward, especially in the relationship building, largely due to the timeskips and only being able to really have conversations with my party members for quests. As such, I did not develop nearly as much of a fondness for them as I feel I could have based on their basic premises. The story also seemed a lot more generic good and evil with the finale being frankly an unwanted and downright stupid punch in the stomach.

But yes, the fact that I was disappointed here (as well as with AC:Revelations) largely stems from me having a fondness for the series and having hoped and had trust in the studios for something better.

Dark Souls is absolutely superb, that's at the top, as well as Arkham City. DA2 was a pretty big letdown for me too.

Dragon Age 2
Skyrim
Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns

Skyrim would have to top my list. I've had it pre-ordered since...june-july? I think. Been reading all the articles in Game Informer and watching all the clips of it I could find on the internet.

Though there were some other pretty cool games. Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Cities was an amazing step in the right direction for the series. A lot of improvement was made compared to the last gameboy version.

I would definitely add Bastion to my list now after having played it and listening to the Soundtrack religiously.
Gorgeous looks, excellent sound design, interesting storytelling. I like it very much.

Dead Island won't be released where you live at all?@_@

And i'd recommend playing Catherine when you can.^_^ It's really good. It's only about 12 hours long max. I've beaten it twice. I'm trying to get all the different endings.

The whole Uncharted series is good though I actually liked 3 the least probably. =P It's multiplayer and co-op features were great but I liked the campaign more on the first 2.

I still need to play Bastion. My friend keeps telling me to play it.xD

I just finished AC:Brotherhood. I hadn't played/beaten an AC game until this year so I had to catch up in the series. Now I need Revelations.@_@

Alice: madness returns
Battlefield 3
Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Aglassbucket;
Nope, Germany's a little... peculiar. I could import it of course, but IDK... I've got L4D and that's fine enough for my zombie needs.

Catherine will be released in February, I hear. Apparently no Publisher had picked it up for Europe before...

I'd definitely recommend Bastion. If you're doubtful, maybe wait for another Steam Sale. I'd also always recommend the edition with the soundtrack, since it is rather excellent.

As far as AC... I'd say you're well off waiting a bit before getting Revelations, so it's not feeling like you've been playing it for forever x_x;
