I know my friends and I went through a phase where we'd be going "Ugh, that's so gay" about anything we didn't like. Which we all knew was an absolute misuse of the dictionary definition of the word.

Sure, it became slang for something "bad", which isn't a good thing...but it happened.

I seem to recall joining a Facebook group called "Gay is now a synonym for Awesome!". Which, technically isn't grammatically correct (you wouldn't say "That's so happy!") but it tried really hard to encourage positive usage of "gay".

I use it in it's proper context of 'happy'. I knew the word gay as happy before I knew it meant homosexual.
I'm pan myself and I'm half and half on the term. If it's a slip and just general usage, doesn't bug me since you can't help the fact it's become common speech and will pop up here and there. But here are times people use it in a really disrespectful manner that irks me.

I throw it around all the time for whatever reason I feel like, but then I also use every racial slur in the book (Gotta make sure no one feels left out) words are just words they don't mean anything. I also don't actually care if people get offended. My friends know I'm only goofing around and people who don't know me don't matter so I've never really had problems.

this pretty much explains it.
words change as time goes, this has happen to many words not including the term gay. hell, i remember when i was younger gay just meant happy and there was no other meanings other then street slang.

Byee !
I gotta admit, I used to say things like "That's gay" when I was younger. But later on, I stopped because I figured that it was wrong and didn't feel right.

//FLIPS TABLE
Dictionay.com defines gay as an adjective for "homosexual" as well as "happy". Therefore, it's ok to ask "are you gay?" when asking for one's sexual orientation.

I find it annoying when people use it to mean something offensive. :C
People could easily be offended by using it wrongly...

Please accept me back with open arms ; ~ ;

I try my best not to use gay and words like it. Once in a while my sister and I will start using it, to only each other, because we both hate when other's use it. It's something we do as a joke as in making fun of the people who use it, not the gay people. We don't generally do that, but like I said, sometimes we just get a hair up our ass and decide to joke around.

If I poof, it's because I got lost o.0

I'm from Portugal and what we were tought in classes is that "gay" means happy in French. Well, we're portuguese, not french and for us gay means homosexual. We didn't even had the word gay, just homosexual but anything english eventually ends-up coming here. We love english neologisms. But if many few people here speak english, even more speak french, so only educated people know that it has both meanings. Also the homosexual people I know don't feel the least offended to be called gay if you're talking to them in a polite way, but if you're actually trying to offend them it doesn't really take a specific word to do that and they know it.
