View topic - What offends you?

So, I recently made a thread in the GD in which I recount some comment that I made about non-white Germans that had a remark about Hitler in it. (Knowledge of said thread is not important, so I do not feel the need to include a link to it, but if you want to read it you may.) It seems to cause some stir, so I thought I would come to Extended Discussion and ask you all the question, "What offends you?"

Or do you even get offended? Do you say offensive things and mean them? Do you tell others not to say things because they are offensive? Should nothing be held sacred or should everything held sacred? Why are some things more offensive than others?

These are the questions I pose to you, ED. In a nutshell, "What offends you?"

Life, the Universe, Everything.
sorry for party rocking.
I get offended when people talk about poverty, and welfare. It pisses me off since my family is quite poor. ;<
Oh, and when people talk about how all Americans are 'stupadz'.

Poor old man shot himself in the face;
To save the ones he loved.
To be honest, not very much offends me really.
The only things that really come to mind are people who aren't honest (aka liars) and people who make comments about children when it really isn't funny.

I respect I have a different sense of humor, such is the case with other people but there are limits in which people should abide by.

Intolerance offends me, although it depends on the degree of the intolerance and the delivery. Jokes that negatively generalise a race, sex or sexual orientation can offend me. Basically, I get annoyed when someone says something cruel that wasn't thought through, or was intended to hurt, and mostly stems from a generalised negative view.

not many jokes offend me, but jokes about rape, race, and sexual oritentation are a bit of a touchy subject. it really depends on the intent and familiarity of the speaker though i guess

i will have to clairfy later cause i know what i want to say i just can't put it into words

I don't tend to get offended by jokes (Be they racially, sexually, or politically charged), or offhand comments about poverty, Hitler, etc.

I do get offended when people honestly believe something I think is wrong though. How open of me! :D

I guess examples would be

People who voted for Prop-8
Creationists
"All members of _____ race are evil/illegal/retarded and I refuse to associate with them in anyway"-ers
People who make up mental disorders, or crimes committed against them. (I have asperger's! Also I was raped.)

I am just three ducks in a man suit
People who make assumptions about me when they know shit about me. That's about it, I think.

bluuuuuuh. eww, what's that doing round here? D:

Jokes don't offend me. If they're kidding, I could care less.

But people trying to justify rape, abuse, or animal cruelty, that really gets me going.
And when people "self-diagnose" themselves with mental or physical illnesses and then FLAUNT it, oh God. I have a touch of both and when people decide that's a good way to get attention that pisses me off and I can get really nasty, depending on the person.
AND people that brag about their fights. Like, "Yeah, I beat the shit out of him because <insert stupid reason>." ERGH.

People who assume they know how I will react to something.

People who act surprised or condescending when someone else achieves something they are naturally good at (if that makes any sense).

Discriminatory slurs.

I wonder...
Steak.
People who are hard headed enough to make rude comments about really anything, but mainly sexual preference and weight, just because they think they can.
Or because they think its cool, or are down right stupide enough to have such a closed mind.

I don't hear a lot of racist things anymore.
Never really did.
And if it was, it wasn't meant to be so.

Out. Of. My. Way.
Stupid people.
No, it sounds mean, but really.
People who think that their religion is science. People who let themselves be brainwashed, and then try to pass on that propaganda as "fact". People who put themselves over other people. Fundamentalists. Political idiots. People with fucked up priorities. And people who don't know about something, yet speak like they know everything.

Oh, and people who are easily offended. Especially those offended by jokes about sexuality, race and rape. :P

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
― Isaac Asimov
I don't generally get offended often.
I don't generally try to ofend people but most of the time people get offended just being around me because I act goofy but I'm actually very smart.

I did get offended once though when I went up to someone and asked their name, in my general cheery-ish way, and they said, "Whatever retarded girl"
Things like that offend me.
I am NOT retarded.
Far from it in fact.

Not much really can offend me.
I think the worst stuff is when people just assume that women should always be a certain way, especially when men decide that because I'm at the register and a woman, I can't count cash. Or when they assume that since I'm a woman, I shouldn't be working at a bookstore. I suppose those are the things that get to me the most (though I never really worry about it, since they have to be pretty stupid to think like that anyway... and half the time they aren't looking for books for themselves anyway, it's always for a daughter or something LOL ).

Other than that, it's usually only when someone's attacking a friend of mine. I won't tolerate people that pick fights with my friends, nor will I tolerate it when they throw out insults. I don't generally let things get to me when they're towards me, but with friends I can't excuse it. Not at all.

I'm so basic.

Rude people who are rude for no reason.

Some people have the right to be rude, most do not.

When someone is rude for no reason, I just can't be polite back.

It's a bit offensive to me when someone uses derogatory terms in a derogatory way, directed at the "intended" targets of those terms. Any other time, such words really don't bother me.
The whole pro-life stance and any other such thing that discourages the idea of people being able to choose what to do with their own bodies is also pretty offensive to me.
I get offended when someone complains about my clothing, especially my makeup. I work hard to look how I want to look; I don't dress for you.
I also get offended by people who are fake and pretend to be nice, understanding, and often superior (whether they realize it or not) by talking down and treating me (or someone else) like a child.
Even worse than those are people who act as if the world (or a particular group of people) owes them something for whatever petty reason that may or may not even relate to them personally.
Last but certainly not least are the ones who assume that because a person is born a certain way (or simply because he exists at all), that person must have a certain trait or quality (especially a negative one).
