View topic - The Marketplace Feature

I look forward to seeing a marketplace here...though I'm worried about inflation...can only wait and see what happens I guess >.>

I'm super happy about it. As a newbie, it's really hard to know what prices things are going for, when you're buying or selling. I had the good luck to exchange with honest people, but I can see how it would be easy to take advantage of a newbie or someone not familiar with the items without an easy reference to look up prices. I know there's guides but not all new users are going to know to seek out a guide, especially if this is their first avatar site or commerce-based site experience.

Also, probably my only complaint about Ernya is the slow response time in some cases, and it seems like it's pretty hard to find a buyer or seller for some of the higher-end items, and even longer to complete the transaction if both parties aren't online at the same time. A Marketplace will eliminate some of that trouble, even if it's just used in those cases to advertise that the seller has the item up for sale and is taking offers.

My only worry is the possibility of people doing like they did on gaia, and purposefully buying up items just to artificially inflate the value. There are people I know of on that site that did it on purpose because they thought it was funny. While I look forward to the marketplace since it will make selling easier, I'm afraid of it as well.

I hope it doesn't end up being abused...

A MP doesn't like.. isn't really an open invitation to AIing, you can AI without the market, as you can see happen to many avatar sites without the system. I don't have much of a worry for it because with or without a marketplace, people will do such things.

Hate is easy; Love takes courage.

It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.
It's actually a lot easier to AI on a site without a marketplace, because users have no set reference as to pricing of an item, especially an older item. It's more common to see someone selling something at, say, 40k, and think "Oh wow, that's what it's going for now?" And post theirs for 40k. AI, or even temp inflation, can happen fairly easily in those circumstances. While a marketplace doesn't necessarily stop that from happening, something that's AI'd in the marketplace won't necessarily carry that pricing in the Exchange.
