View topic - Persona 3

I've browsed through a few pages and was surprised to see that there wasn't any thread dedicated to this game. It's pretty surprising considering that Persona 3 (or at least P3P) is probably one of the most amazing games I've played in my lifetime.

Admittedly, I didn't like it at first. Initially, I found it way too bizarre for my tastes with the appearance of a strange boy and people pointing 'guns' at their foreheads. However, once I actually played the game, I found myself enjoying it fully. I find it amusing and at the same time refreshing that the game tries to combine the features of a normal RPG game with a dating simulation type of environment. I mean, I'm not a big fan of games like the Sims but Persona 3 manages to make everything 'just right.' The overall premise is pretty amazing too. Plus, the art is superb and has a very distinct appeal. The battle system is pretty normal for an RPG though. It's a typical turn-based game. The system of creating Personas however is another interesting trait of the game and is probably one of the main elements that makes it evident to the players that the game is made by Japanese (aside from the obvious Japanese character names used, of course).

YOU. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY ERNYAN LIFE.

Admittedly many of the Persona games are... rather nonsensical at first glance. P3 features a bunch of teenagers shooting themselves in the head in a bloody, coffin-filled world and P4 is about a bunch of teenagers going into TVs and being forced to face with the side of themselves they hate and hide. All the while saving people from being killed by said hated side.

I've never really had any qualms about Persona to begin with. I'm used to playing a few SMT games so I was sorta mentally prepared for the WTF-ness of P3. Plus it had good graphics, good gameplay, and and a good storyline. Which was more than what I could have asked for as a heavy RPGer.

Admittedly turn-based is fairly common, but when you factor in your Personae and all the out-of-Dark-Hour things, it makes for interesting gameplay. Loved the game except for the fact that my favourite character was ONLY USABLE FOR A MONTH and I'm trying to work on getting Orpheus Telos right now. Kinda freaking out because it's December already and I've still got a few SLinks missing. D;

    ON OTHER AVATAR SITES?
    Hurr //shot

Seriously, the whole shooting on the head thing made me go like.... "Whu? I know you look suicidal but seriously! Why'd you just suddenly grab Yukari's gun and shoot yourself like that?! Are you an idiot?" towards the MC. I mean at that point, he didn't even KNOW what the gun was for.

    But it's pretty cool nonetheless.

Haha. I never really used your favorite character that much. To be honest, I have a bot of a grudge on him since he kept on calling me stupid. //shot

Ahhhh. I had a problem with that on the FeMC part of the story D:
I didn't know that one person was like your favorite character and only had a VERY limited time on earth D8

Haha. We probably sound totally cryptic to everyone else.

Also, I really do like the story line.
The ending sounds pretty good too. I haven't finished the game myself but after reading some fanfiction on the game, I was able to infer what the ending is.

WHAT. REALLY. WHERE.
YEAH. WELL. YOU'RE HERE NOW AND WE MUST FANDERP ABOUT PERSONA.
Also, sorry for the immensely late reply because apparently we're the only two Persona 3 fans on Ernya. ono

Well, there is supposed to be a thematic message behind both Persona 3 and Persona 4. Though people may only think of it as, "Oh, it's just a game", once you delve into the lessons the characters learn, the trials they face, and consider the possibly hidden messages, it's an incredibly deep game. Both share the common theme of "social bonds". It's a very counter-cultural view, if you consider it. iPod, iTouch, Myspace, Twitter... even if it's supposed to be a social network, all of it, in the end, focuses on the individual. Society continually feeds the message of "You can do it... by yourself." You don't need anyone else to help you; the things you accomplish are yours, and no one else's. You can do it yourself, you don't need others. Yet in Persona 3 and 4, "bonds of people are the true power". You can only become stronger and fight more efficiently when you build relationships with others, understand them, sympathize with them, trust them, encourage them, love them. The protagonist is the number zero: either they represent the infinite, able to accept and understand all, or they are nothing, empty and void. It is the Social Links that give rise to the ultimate World/Universe Arcana; without them, there is nothing you can do.

Persona 3 addresses the issue of life, particularly surrounding the ideas of death and its importance. Apathy Syndrome was caused because the people "forfeited the will to live". They grew hopeless, and the Shadows fed on that, until they were no longer willing to put up a semblance of normalcy. Time is something no one can escape, and to know how to live, you must first know how to die. By understanding that life is short, and that one only has a set amount of time on the earth, one can then go about considering: what is the meaning of my life? What do I want to accomplish? How should I live my life so that I won't look back at the end and say, "Dang, I wish I hadn't done that"? SEES and Strega were blessed with the incredible power to defeat the darkness of people's hearts. But the way they used that power was different. Strega wanted to unload their own pain; the agony of their existence, the hatred they held for those who hadn't lived the life of pain they had, the hopeless despair of knowing when they would die. They used their power for themselves, to rectify their own justice upon others. SEES, on the other hand, persevered through their trials. No matter what came their way, even when faced with the choice of how they would die, they fought for the belief of a tomorrow, a future that they could live in together. Living and dying for the benefit of others, so that they might have a future.

The reason he keeps doing that is because he's trying to protect others. He views himself as a dangerous person (due to his background) and so when he sees someone being so open and trusting, he's afraid for them, because he doesn't want to get them hurt. Especially regarding himself, since he knows that he's got a shorter amount of time to live, and once THAT issue was brought up he knew it was only a matter of time before he'd have to face up with it, and he didn't want to cause pain and grief for them.

That's why in the FeMC part, he said, "You don't have to forgive me, but forgive everything else" and "Don't cry. Keep smiling, just like that."

And yes, that night. ALL MY FEELS AND CREYS ON THE FLOOR. ;_; My only comfort is that in the FeMC version, you can actually save his life. Even though he's still out of commission for the rest of the game. ALL MY FEELS AND CREYS. ALL OF IT. I still leveled him to 99 and got his Ultimate Weapon regardless. anditotallywishihadaboyfriendlikehimhahaha...

....I'm just biased for him. I'll shut up now.

Don't we just? ;'D Though I probably gave everything away with my random shpeels. I am horrible at keeping spoilers.

There's more than one ending. You have to choose the right answer to get the good one. (Hint: I mentioned the theme)

Ahahaha... Fanfiction... I am a guilty writer of it. Mostly Shinji x FeMC because I ship that pairing foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. //shot

I can say that I've never played any of the Persona games, mainly because I don't play non-Nintendo systems /shot

I've heard a lot of praise about the series, perhaps I can get my hands on trying it.

I haven't beaten the last boss yet, and quite honestly, I don't want to.
I don't want this game to end, I loved it a lot.
What I dislike is that you have to spend a tremendous amount of time training in Tartarus to beat the final boss...

J'ai mis mon sourire en berne,
Immolé l'air et son pollen

Pour savourer pleinement ma peine.
@Arsenic;;
Which final boss? Nyx Avatar? That's the last "non-rigged" boss you have to fight. [
The very last boss, Nyx, is a rigged boss for plot purposes.]

Also, did you complete the Medal quests to open up Monad? The Shadows in Monad give some decent EXP up till about level 95-ish before it turns into another grindfest.

And why do you not want to end it? If you finish and get New Game+, you can carry over Personae, levels, and equips depending on the difficulty level you play on. That and [
you can get an ending where you die with someone other than Aigis. If you play a a guy you get either Yukari, Fuuka, or Mitsuru; with the girl you get Shinji, Aki, or Ken. No Koro or Junpei because Atlus sucks that way.]

I like Persona 3, love it really. I didn't really have much of a reason to buy it, just did. I didn't want the first two though i've heard really good stuff about them. I beat P3 and now im on my second playthough, I actually cried when Aragaki died, wel the second time i played anyway.
When i write fanfics it's mainly AkixOC but now that there's a FeMC i guesss i can make pairing for them, since, i suppose she doesn't have much of a personality I think, I don't have P3P Nor have I played it, like the music though :D
The one fight i dread the most is probably Elizabeth/(Theo if you play P3P) I figure she's gonna super pwn me, as will Margret if i ever get around to trying to fight her in Persona 4.
But aren't we talking about P3?
I feel like it's more like a game you'd play in the summer, cuz summer is just amazingly awesometasic
I loved Akihiko, he was always in my party

Mystearica you need to hide the spoiler parts for people who haven't played yet.

Anyways, IV played all the way through the person 3 fes (except for the answer part and i will tell you now not to play that because it will ruin the game for you) and most of the way through 4. I adore both games extremely. They are probably the best games I've ever played next to dragon age.

Also, for those who don't know. Persona 3 fes is a different version from the regular P3. It adds more blue room interactions and persnas and relationships/arcanas. Its the better version of the two.
Except for the answer part which is a complete add on you can okay after the main game and should never play for it ruins the whole idea behind the main game.
