View topic - Looking to Escape from Grey Gardens
My step mom has been poisoning my mind my whole life, setting me up to fail.
She admitted to me that she doesn't want me to have kids EVER, because then she would feel like I'm not her kid anymore. I'd have my own life and she doesn't want to share me. She told me that this morning, before I went to bed.
I thought back on it all day, and it all fits. When I moved out in '04 she was immediately like "you can move back any time!" She kept on it for 5 years before I finally did.
Whenever I get called to work on my day off she tries talking me into not going in. Whenever I would save up to move out she'd constantly give me little things about why i should wait.
The only ex's of mine she ever liked were ones she knew would fail on their own. Whenever a guy seemed good for me she'd be in the back ground, "Don't go to fast." "Are you sure?" like a little devil on my shoulder.
I'm 26 years old, and have done NOTHING in my life, which seems to be EXACTLY what she wants me to do. I need to put my fucking foot down. I don't want to end up like Little Edie Beale, old and wasted before I have a chance to live life.

Hmmm I know that mothers (or mother figures, step mothers, etc) do try to hold onto kids, and that's natural, but to full on not want you to have your own life is a bit over the top.
Have you maybe mentioned the fact that if you have your own kids, then she'll have the whole nurturing grandmother role to slip into, and probably be happier with young children than trying to control a 26 year old?
Obviously, she wouldn't have them 24/7, but it would give her time to do what she wants to do with the rest of her life, while still having kids around...
I don't see why somebody would act like that, surely she wants you to have your own life and have hers back again, too. Not that you hold her back, but you know what I mean... Like being able to go on holidays and such without worrying, all that crap. :3
As i said just now, her biggest mistake was telling me this.
All she did was give me more of a reason to move out.

I guess just try and stockpile money where it wont be noticed, so she thinks all is good then WHAM! Move out. :3
Exactly. in the mean time while i look for a better job, or preferably a job where i want to move to, I'm going to go through and trim down the amount of shit i own.

Don't go too overboard, though - Just make it easier to move... You don't wanna throw anything which you might need then just have to buy it again. :3
oh yeah, most definitely.
but i still dont need everything. and there is some shit that i kn ow if i have it boxed up they'll keep it safe for me. (they did it before when i had moved out to my ex roommates house)

Hmmm just got a text from my last housemate, apparently she wants all my stuff out like pretty much now cause she has furniture coming and will need the space...
How could one person occupy a four bedroom house which had 2 empty rooms when I left less than a week ago. :/
Mom just added a pile of blouses, im getting those vacumb bags, because my friends who are on their own, struggle to get aruquite winter stuff. I just sell the things I dont plan or have worn. But I see now, too bad its under bad circumstances.

I had to do the same un narrowing my baggage i sold 100 bucks worth of stuff 1$ each or so, trash, stiff that had no sentimental value, or could do without, I gave the books I could do without to the used book store that gives credit so you could get discount.
