It's things like this that completely prevent me from taking you seriously. Because they ARE more likely to have it. Do your fucking research.

I'm not saying I agree with the discrimination. But you have to realize that the rule is there for a reason. Complete lack of the ability to look at the issue from different perspectives makes you look like a 12 year old.

Actually, if you were to sit and really think about it... EVERYONE IS ASL LIKELY TO HAVE IT IF THERE HAS BEEN SEX IN THEIR PAST AT ALL.

It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is, if you've had sex, you're automatically at risk for AIDS. So no, I don't believe that Gays are more likely to have it. I believe everyone has an equal chance of acquiring AIDS.

Disagree if you want, it's my opinion.

You want me to do my research?
Ok then, fine.
Gays and blacks are evil bastards and shouldn't be allowed to donate blood to help others survive because they are more likely to have AIDS.
Bullshit.

AIDS is something that affects everyone the same, your sexual orientation or skin colour does not make you any more weak or resistant to it. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you're gay, bi, lesbian, straight, white, black, or purple for all anyone cares. It doesn't matter.

What matters, is your sexual practices, since that's the most common way to pass it around. It doesn't matter WHO you sleep with (Ok, it does kinda... you know, don't sleep with someone who has AIDS ><), what matters is HOW you sleep with them. Use protection and whatnot.

Point is, Gays aren't more likely to have it in my opinion.
Everyone has an equal chance to have AIDS.

Looking for a monthly Heart Supplier. PM me~
That's gay.

I mean really, what are they living in last century? That's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. Anyone who has sex or shoots up is at risk for aids.

They should worry more about testing the blood and sterilizing the needles.

On a side note, I don't think what you said was so much racist as it was condoning something that is totally discriminatory (at least to me it was). I don't blame you for it since I understand your view. As for what others have said, I can understand why they say they might as well ban Africans as well (though I would feel offended at that).

Ultimately, it would make sense to just ask someone about the last time they had sex since it takes about 3 months for it to show up. Doing this (in addition to asking about the last time they got tested for STIs) would be a better than just banning someone because of their sexuality... or maybe I'm among the few who see it that way?

actually it takes a hell of a lot longer then that in most cases. my sisters was a sperm donor baby and her dad is gay. about three years ago he started getting really sick and we all thought he was going to die. Turns out he had AIDS. he knew when he got it because he got tested for it after the encounter. and then he got tested again three years later. and another two years after that. just to be sure. Guess they missed something all three times because ten years after that first test he tested positive for AIDS.

I live in Ontario and A group of my friends went to donate blood. There was one gay man and two bi-sexual's, though we did not say that to them. We had asked this and they could not answer as to why this policy only apply to men and not women. They answered all they knew about men but nothing on women. It was fairly irritating.

We all gave blood no matter.

I didn't think that law could be anymore ludicrous. I thought they were only baring homosexuals, but they limited it to just gay men?.... wow.

I agree.

I know this is way late for a post, but I just wanted to add a few things that while I was skimming I didn't see.
I was kind of wondering if, since homosexual men aren't allowed to donate blood, why not homosexual women as well?
And is there a race issue here, too?
Example: Are ALL homosexual men discriminated against in this way, or, say, just those who are African American?
Also:
I totally agree that the law is stupid and that everybody has an equal chance to get AIDS. Heck, you don't even have to have intercourse to get HIV OR AIDS. All it takes is a little blood-sibling bond, and HUZZAH! AIDS. (or HIV)
I also agree with whoever it was that said that this is just a way to become lazy in checking blood samples.
I think that this is an extremely offensive law, and that it should be extinguished.

My heart is healing :)

I would sue if I was turned away, honestly, and people most likely are. You CANNOT discriminate against things like that with no BASIS about them being more susceptible to aids.

@juicelizard
Juice Lizard is my gaia user.
Oh well.
It's the safety of the people.
Some gay guy in my class was bitching about that.
Well, you can't change it.

I still miss you little girl.
Don't you guys know? Gay is in your dna and you can transfer that dna in blood and people are worried that gay blood will alter peoples dna and make them fancy same sex relationships, duh.

That's illegal.
If they are caught for giving blood there will be repercussions, and it's a terrible thing, but the law is the law.

I feel ashamed of my province.
Maybe the law was passed years ago when it was still reasonable to believe that gay people were more susceptible to AIDS. Because for a while it sure seemed like it.
However, anyone who's had sex has run the risk of transmitting or obtaining an STD. If they for some reason attribute it to an aspect of a homosexual man's sexual life, such as anal sex, then maybe they should be asking everyone if they've ever had anal sex. I still don't see how you could argue that, though. I believe it's likely an old law that was never revised. After all, there's still a law in the city of Thorold that says Black people have a curfew of 9:00pm.
