View topic - I am SO angry at the medical system,,,

I'm thinking when Obama passed the health-care laws here his goal was to kind of change the medical system to more mirror other countries, but with our system the way it was it ended up making it worse. Aetna and...the company I work for keep increasing my costs because of the increased amounts THEY have to pay.

And the medical industry isn't the only one suffering from that same problem, that when the government attempts to make reforms they only make it worse. The major banks opting to do monthly debit charges is a great example of that.

@Savegery His pediatrician used a lance for bilrubin tests when he was newborn, although squeezing the blood out did bruise his ankles. Still, it was much, much better than digging with an IV in his arm, that HAD to be painful. If he gets anymore treatment like that he'll probably end up as phobic about needles as I always was for the longest time.

@Thalassaemia Man even the $50 would be AWESOME for a hospital visit. When I was pregnant, coming to the emergency room because I was afraid I was in pre-term labor cost me out of pocket $350 for the hospital and an additional $150 with my OB/GYN, plus lab work.

A lot of people rave that the American medical system is the fastest and most comprehensive, but we're extremely expensive for it. I'd hate to have a chronic condition here. Granted, you may be receiving top of the line care but the costs? For something that's more than likely putting you out of work?

Words exist because of meaning. Once you've gotten the meaning, you can forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so I can talk with him? ~Chuang Tzu

The thing is, the Canadian medical system rivals the Americans in many ways, and outshines in many others. People here don't get into medicine to get rich, and that's one major step in the direction of quality patient care- nurses become nurses because they care about people, not because of the salary. Granted, we don't have a lot of the innovation that you guys do, and there's still an issue of Canadians wanting more drastic or experimental procedures that have to pack their money and fly south for it, but so many of the arguments against the socialized health care that people were throwing around down there just don't make sense to me. Longer ER waits? Okay, yeah. I spent six hours in there with a kidney infection last year, and I was in pain, and I cried, and it sucked and blah blah blah. But you know what, that visit cost me nothing more than those hours, and the hospital gave me the antibiotics for free because I told them flat out I couldn't afford it. In this economy, I'd rather trade time for medical care than trade less time but a LOT more money for medical care.
