View topic - Have you ever fallen in love...

with a literary character (yes Edward and Jacob count)
(I want all Twilight fans to feel safe here) =)

I have fallen in love twice, where when the character appeared my heart would beat fast (so embarrassing) and I would stop reading if my husband came into the room.

They were Sid Halley

and Natty Bumpo

Don't know why or how, like real love I couldn't explain it.

Who is your literary crush???

I have written stories years ago when I used someone I used to love's character and became self-conscious and embarrassed when my new love was nearby and could have read what I was writing. I was very surprised by the idea I either still had feelings for my old flame or that I felt I sort of cheated on my new one by even using my old flame's character. Such things as we do when writing are things of the spirit, our spirit at least, and therefore a part of us, and as real then as we are. Aren't they?

Quite a few times I have done this and I am unsure as to why. Even some of the darker characters in stories I find my self under their spell.

Issues; quest and chat thread
Since reading this thread I have realized my NaNoWriMo novel is about me trying to talk a lady I have never met into falling in love with me. The more I picture her the more I am sure I could and do love someone like that real or unreal, it depends on whether the book works out.

~Are you scared of the Dark~
Yes I have. There are so many that I just love to hate, but I guess that is how the author wanted them to be.

Do romance novels count as literary sources? I have a few favorites that, yes, I believe I was in love with the man in them. One of them, I was in love with the twin brother of the main male character, which was interesting because he was suffering from unrequited love for the main female. I liked him better than the main guy.

Yes I have several times. There was this one evil woman in a book I can't remember the name of. I think she was a witch or something, she kept killing her rich husbands with poisons for their money. She was purely evil on the inside but she knew how to use men to get what she wanted and her magic charms were pretty cool. She was also described as a raven-haired beauty and I thought she was very sexy.. even though she kind of needed to die..

I also liked this guy Kurt from a book called 'Winter Kill.' The heroine's boyfriend was murdered and for a long time he is the main suspect, even though he is very sweet. He's blond and Swedish and speaks with an accent which is sexy.

I'd go for Boo Radley. He's all pale, and lonely, and kind of weird, and locked up in that house hardly ever even seeing any women other than his mother... Mmm! lol

I must say this made me giggle a little, but not because it's silly, when I studied the book for school we watched the movie, nearing the end when we saw him behind the door my friend shouted out 'Dyyyyyyyyam that guys got some SEXY in him' XD

I must say I have fallen a few times for characters in novels, one of the worst is Humbert in Lolita. By the end of the book I felt so terribly sorry for him.

Insert something incredibly witty, slightly sarcastic and with a pinch of adhering charm here. Also include bacon and cute.

Hi. I like to read a lot.

This might sound a little strange, but when I fall in love with characters in books, I sort of do it on behalf of the protagonist or heroine. Often she hasn't figured it out yet. But it's like it's to the extent that I'm identifying with one of the characters. When I read books I sort of lose myself in the world of the book and leave myself behind sometimes. When I come back out again, I myself am not in love with the literary character, because they aren't right for me, they are right for the other character in the book that I was identifying with, but I'm jealous of what they have.

Does that make any sense?

(I don't like books where it doesn't turn out nice, as a general rule.)

{ ive definitely had a crush on some characters, but never really fallen in love with one XD the closest ive come would probably be étienne or cricket from anna and the french kiss and lola and the boy next door. i swear, the author makes you fall in love with the characters for the duration of the book, and its just written so well~ + v+ they're the only books (so far) that have made me feel like im in love with the character, and really the only romance books (to me) that captivated me and made me feel all floaty. }
