View topic - Guide Suggestions

I've seen a few posts on how to do things that the guide doesn't explain too well, as well as comments that it's not very visually helpful. I'd like to know what you guys think could be changed/added/removed and what would help! Just post here and let me know so I can make this guide the most helpful it can be. :)

Here's some things that I've found while snooping profiles
and and and
would like to be in the guide. ouo

padding
floats
.wrapper

and and and
I'd like a better section for the custom sections. ; 3;
<x< Like, give an example with more than just one in it.

I still can't figure out how to make fancier buttons for the add button. D:

Also; margins.
When's the best time to use left vs right and what's the difference if there's any at all. 8U
Also; Negative numbers vs positive numbers.
How will you know when not to use one or the other?

stuff like that is stuff I'm always asking myself when making profiles. ouo

pfffffffffffffffffft
and for some reason, everything likes to stick to the comments section. oxo
<x< I'm kinda curious if there's a fix for this.

For my own personal pleasure (and others, I suppose), I'd kill for an in-depth look at how to use fonts on profiles that all computers do not necessarily come with. I recall you mentioning that it could be done in a PM once, but I'd like to see how it works in the guide :o It'd definitely be helpful to the coders like us who want to go above and beyond with that sort of thing c:

I was Jenna a couple of minutes ago, but now I'm not.
Now I know it ain't easy, but it ain't hard trying.
Havoc! Fighter! Pilot to the stars!
@Alexia: I'll look into the things you mentioned. :)

@Jenna: I'll look into it, though I'm not sure if it will totally work, as the fonts wouldn't be hosted on Ernya's servers.

Moar suggestions 8U!

border-radius
line-height

and and and
the selector input

< x < FROM JUST ONE JENNA/FRANCIS PROFILE.

pffffffffffffffft AND
how to make it so when you click on the last page of the comments,
everything doesn't stick to the comments and gets shoved up.

Hate is easy; Love takes courage.

It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.
I notice that when someone posts a comment they can't use < and > tags because it recognizes them as html. I was wondering if this could be fixed so if somone uses them for something like <.< or <3 It wouldn't do it. Thanks :)

@ShadowWolf: This is actually not able to be fixed. The reason this is done is because the system tries to recognize it as an HTML code, which isn't allowed to be used. Unless the comments system is redesigned you can use "< 3" instead.

@Jenna: You can use the CSS font property for externally hosted fonts too they don't necessarily have to be hosted on Ernya, Google Fonts API has a great selection of fonts that are already hosted by Google and are free to use.

I am currently using it on my profile however it will only appear in Google Chrome and Firefox since IE will not support TTF style fonts, it only supports EOT style. boy

EDIT: Nevermind I removed it cause it was bothering me oops

How to resize images. I know how to do it in HTML but not in CSS.

Speaking of which, are you considering maybe adding some HTML features in the feature? There are so many cool stuff that I learned how to code in HTML and now can't seem to be able to do in CSS :(

@Minaki: I'll definitely add that. :)

Sadly we don't have HTML now, and I'm not sure if we plan on getting that integrated any time soon. I would love it if we could use it, but it tends to be a security issue, as people could embed/insert new codes themselves.

Another thing missing is how to change the font-family and a small list of font-families that are more likely to work on all browsers (such as Arial and Times).
Again, I know how to do it in HTML, not sure if it can also be done with CSS.
I'm starting to wonder why I bothered learning HTML in the first place xD

I just realized it would be so much easier if we had a profile editer, where we would drag the different sections around and change things and the code would just be automatically generated. *day-dreams*

I'll add that up in the text post. :)

I would like a more in depth explainations on repositioning sections: a better explaination of the numbers and what direction they lead in and such.
Also, I've been seeing a lot of people play with Hidden sections in their profiles and I haven't seen anything in the guide that explains this very well.
Fonts are also something that I find a bit lacking in the explanation of.
Stronger visual examples would also be helpful for people that are more visual learners...
Sorry if my wording is confusing in any way.
