I think I disagree. o-o

The past levelling items have felt more like Ernya is trying to bring in a bigger variety of 'darker' items. Like, the Frankendoll (even though it's kinda like the Ragdoll..) and that one with the skeleton horse, even the Haunted Doll. All of these items have felt a little different than the cute stuff that usually comes out.
However, I think all three of these items have been fail. They're nice and all but they just don't appear to be very popular. I, personally, dislike all of them. I kinda feel that if Eryna does decide to go down the line of creating a bigger variety of items she may end up annoying the general majority. I, personally, believe that sci-fi items would only appeal to a select few members on the site while most members wont use such items. So Ernya maybe less willing to make these items because some of us just hate them.
Variety is good, but all I know is that with the items that have been coming out recently I'm getting very bored with them and losing interest.
Also, if Ernya's website is aimed at girls who like cute stuff, then so be it. Afterall, the theme of Ernya has always been the cute dragon and clouds and stuff, hasn't it? It's like saying a sci-fi themed site should have more cute stuff.

I'm most certainly not saying 'don't do that because SOME people wont like it' because that's generally a stupid theory. However, it'd be completely pointless to do something or make an item that most people wont like, enjoy or use.

You can't do something if MOST people wont like it. It's like saying, Ernya can't not go around re-releasing all the past DI's just because SOME people wont like it. Whereas actually, most people don't like that idea so Eryna doesn't do it.. it's logic. x'3

Perhaps there should be a vote, for example, who wants sci-fi items and who would rather something else? All I'm saying is that Eryna can't please everyone and she can't go around making items to please 5 people on the entire site. (Just a number.. it could be that EVERYONE wants sci-fi items, but it's just an example)

Every month I hope for masculine items. I'm a chick, but I like having badass avatars and sometimes make male avatars too. So far I haven't particularly liked anything that's come out this month, and last month was pretty much the same situation. It's not anyone's fault really, it seems like a few poses are more masculine, like the duality headband or the punky kitty hoodie/boots, but we already have headbands and hoodies and boots and nothing in those items really reinvented the wheel. I'd like to see more sci-fi items, like mentioned, and more masculine items that we don't already have, or at least are a bit more different from items we already have.

I understand that some pixel artists don't like masculine items/aren't good at them/whatever, but...it's their job to make items. That's what they're paid to do, and maybe it's unfortunate they have to do stuff they don't like, but so does everyone else who is employed. I don't know why they need to get special treatment above all the customers they serve who have to work at jobs they don't like to make money to donate to this site. Maybe they should try practicing a little more with masculine forms so they can do a good job?

Sci-fi versus anything else is an unfair poll and I'm sure you're aware of that. It would have to be whether you want sci-fi items at all, or not, because you can't tell people they have to pick between sci-fi items or getting anything else, because most people are a little more varied in their tastes than getting nothing but one theme of item. As it is people are indeed asking for more variety, outside of just this thread, so maybe making more variety should be considered, beside just sci-fi items. Maybe we can take a break from clouds and rainbows and cats and mushrooms, because we already have several of these items, and get something different.

Xerxies; the poll was just an example, I didn't mean to imply that it should be exactly that. Buuut, if the poll were to say would you like sci-fi donation items or cutesy donation items then I'd personally choose cutesy any time. I've nothing against sci-fi items but I'd rather not lose out on having cute ribbons and things for the sake of sci-fi.
Alsoo, I'm not shooting anyone down or trying to start arguments, I'm just giving a different opinion, and while it's good to debate, my opinion wont change - I'd much rather cute items than sci-fi, but that's just me.

And right now, according to what Emy said, the power is in the hands of the artists, as pixel artists are hard to find Emy can't go firing them because they refuse to make certain types of items. While the same cannot be said in most businesses - you have to do what you're told to do, Ernya isn't like that.
I do feel that we are getting the same type of masculine items, though, but if all the artists are girls (who aren't that into masculine items) then it may be hard for them to picture what it is exactly that users are after when they request such things. I do believe that Ernya as a whole has been trying to provide a diversity in items and the site. The banner at the top was changed from the cute dragon so that it could appeal to a larger audience, and items as of late have been more.. nightmare-ish as oppose to ribbons and cute stuff. I think Emy is definitely listening to her users and she's aware of the situation, but from what I've heard it doesn't sound as easy as just making masculine items or sci-fi items. Maybe if people specified what exactly they want, as oppose to just 'sci-fi' that might help the artists?

I agree with Lexi about there being a lot of other items, like punk stuff and a crap ton of wings and darker items. Maybe the next user contest theme should be dress up things? Or the next common update? Then we could have cowboy outfits, alien outfits, astronauts and other sci fi things, medieval costumes, BIG POOFY NEKO EARZ, etc.

I've been wanting a rat item since I joined this site, sometimes you just have to wait a really long time before you get that one thing you really want (on topic with the alien thing).

I personally think the site has been doing a pretty good job with variety in our items lately. Sure, we get a lot of cute items but we also get other items with those. Such as the DI's lately, and the CI's, you'll see things from cute to something more .. non-cute? I guess you can call it.
