View topic - Ernya Game Guide: Solitaire

Welcome to the Solitaire gaming guide. After seeing Lie's awesome guide to the BrickWorks game, I wanted to make one for the Solitaire game. It took me a while to figure out how to play and I noticed that some other users are also having trouble learning it. Hopefully this guide helps. If there are any questions or if you think I should add some info, post here. :)

Unlike the other Ernya games, there is no start button in Solitaire so as soon as you choose the game on the Games page and the Solitaire page loads, the timer starts counting. Click and drag to move cards around. Cards can be placed on top of the next highest card of the opposite color. Click a card to send it to the top. All the cards must be stacked from lowest to highest according to suit in the top row to win the game. Points (and gold) are awarded based on how quickly you complete the game.

The game consists of a timer (top left corner), a reset button to start a new game (refreshing the page also starts a new game), and 8 stacks of cards, some face up and others face down. The entire deck is in play already so there is no need for a Deal pile. There is not an undo button.

Stacks of cards must be moved around so that face down cards are uncovered and so low cards are available to be sent to the top.

It does not matter what cards are in a stack being moved as long as the bottom card in that stack is the next lower number and opposite color of the card on top of the stack it's being moved to. Click on uncovered face down cards to turn them over. Click on a face up card to send it to the top (this only works if that card is an Ace or it is the next highest card in a suit to one that is already up top).

Once all the cards from one of the original stacks have been moved to other stacks, an empty slot remains. Only King cards can be put on empty slots.

The only way to get gold is to finish the game. Once you finish a game, click End to submit the score and get gold. Finished games do not stack (clicking Retry does not save your score and add it to the score from the next game) so you should click End after every game.

1. Aim for uncovering as many of the face down cards as possible first. It's much easier to move cards around and get them in order when there are more cards face up.
2. You can take the cards of each of the stacks in the top row out and put them on a bottom stack if you find you need them in play again. But, you can only do this in order, so if you find yourself needing a red 3 but you've already stacked to red 5, you have to have places for the red 5 and red 4 as well or you won't be able to use the card you need. You may be able to avoid this problem by waiting to stack all of the suits of each number at a time (not stacking any 3 until you uncover all of them, for example).
3. If you find two cards of the same color and number are stacked on top of each other, don't separate them until you have uses for both of them.
4. Don't expect to win every time. This game is the slow path to gold.

Q&A

Q1. I submitted my score but it says it took me longer in the reward line than it actaully did.
Ex:

A1. Yes, several people have noticed that this happens sometimes, apparently because the timer does not stop counting until you click End (so make sure you do that as soon as it pops up so it only adds about 3 sec to your time instead of a lot). I have also noticed it when using IE and restarting the game by refreshing the page that the time adds up from the refreshed games and the new one. It's been reported and we'll just have to wait for it to be fixed.

Q2.

Thanks for the guide.
Even with it though, the game is hard to win.
I'm not sure how long I played it, but I finally won. I was so excited. lol.

I've been playing this game a lot lately.

I was wondering: How is the score calculated?
I know it's based on how long it took you to finish the game, but what other factors are in play?
Because all the scores in the Top Ten are in the 800s.
._.

All the top scores are games finished in around a minute and a half or less. Beyond that, I have no idea what goes into the numerical score.
