View topic - Do you think we ask for too much?
I'd just like to start by acknowledging that while a few people may be sensitive to certain issues, and may have very strong opinions about them, this is a friendly discussion thread. You're allowed to disagree and you're allowed to express your opinion, but anyone who takes anything to a personal level will be asked to leave.
I'd also like to point out that I am not calling anyone ungrateful, I'm not saying we shouldn't give feedback or request things from Emy, I am simply providing a discussion topic.

I was reading a feedback thread regarding adding spells to EIs when I realised how many new items have to be recoloured each month for the new spell. That's a lot of work, and we're getting new items all the time. Yet people still ask for spells to be available on more items. If spells were to be available for EI's then near enough every item on Ernya would be available in every colour. That's a lot more than any other site has. The simple fact that we get donation items in every colour (eventually) is amazing.
There seems to always be a thread in the feedback forum requesting extra or split poses of certain items. For example; previously it was suggested that the Magical Girl ribbons be separated from the shoes. As per most reasonable requests, we were granted this extra pose.
So do you think we ask too much? Are we too used to getting what we request that we forget how much work and effort goes into pleasing us?
Also, do you think Emy made a mistake when she decided to be so accommodating to our wants? I mean, other sites wouldn't even consider granting their users extra poses upon request. However, if the owner chooses to do so once, in all fairness, they must accept that not only will they get more requests but they will be expected to accept these, too. After all, it wouldn't be fair of Emy to accept one request and not another (assuming both requests are reasonable with no reasons why the pose shouldn't be added). So if Emy had never accepted these requests in the first place perhaps she wouldn't have such a huge work load now. Of course, her ability to listen and react to our feedback is what makes the site so special, but do you ever think that sometimes she regrets being so involved and accommodating? What's done cannot be undone, and generally we expect her to grant us our requests.
While I strongly believe that we should all have the option to express our feedback openly, I sometimes feel that we're all just whining about things that don't really matter, but add extra pressure to the Ernya staff. I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't ask for the things we ask for here on other avatar sites. Every time new items come out, you can guarantee there will be at least one thread requesting something to be added, taken away or changed (I'm guilty of it myself). Don't you ever want people to just get over it and leave poor Emy alone? Or is it Emy's fault for being too nice?

Every month I kinda get annoyed by it.
So yes I do think the user base asks for allot.

yep, the ideas are some times good additions.
So good that sometimes I think even Emy might have wanted the addition. She dose make avis, and sometimes I see the pose suggestions that were added recently on her current avi.

♥ This user base asks for the same amount of stuff as any other site's user base. The only real difference is the type of stuff we ask for and as long as it's reasonable, we tend to get it. Out of all the other sites I've seen, none of them care for their user base the way Mama Ernya cares for us. There's nothing wrong with asking and suggesting stuff, it's how websites grow. There's also nothing wrong with Mama Ernya going, "I'MMA ADD THIS POSE CAUSE IT SOUNDS AWESOME. >8U //adds" You seem to be forgetting that Mama Ernya also loves to dress up her dolly and just might be curious or unaware of different non existent poses and without user feedback these different poses wouldn't happen.
I don't think Mama Ernya is the type of admin who'll ever "get sick of it". She's had plenty of chance to do so. In all my time that I've been here, I've only seen her snap back in one feedback thread, but with good cause and while being honest about it. If she really didn't want threads "asking for stuff" in the feedback forum, don't you think by now, two plus years later, she'd have some sort of rule about it? ido. >u >
I'm all for asking for new poses. If it would be too much trouble to do so, then I know ernya would turn it down.
Like the time people were asking for poses that were drawn in art which would need to be pixeled from scratch, and ernya said "no". That's a completely unreasonable request and I can totally understand why she rejected it. But Asking for one pose to be separated from an already existing pose or something really isn't AS bad.
Recolours is a bit much to ask for. I know even I have asked for various things to be available in silver instead of just gold, but now I see that it was a little bit too much of a request for me to ask for. Recolours take a lot more time / effort than just splitting up a pose.
So yeah if there is more to this, well i'm a little lazy and not going to read the rest, I'll stick to commenting on these. ^^;

I don't think asking for pose is a bit much if it something simple like separated pose up.
Now I do agree some user ask for too much.
Now if it something crazy like recolor or asking for an entire service, than that too much. Like asking for a marketplace thing is consider a service since it like required a whole new set of code and stuff. Those thing should only be done if it is very important.
Like here a few that annoy me:

@ misfit baby : well I was thinking having the base change and I assume that mean all the item would have to be edit or remake for it. If it just a bump item than I am all for it. Easy to make and not a lot of editing.I was thinking about the whole edit avi base thing and item I read about somewhere on gaia.
On the part of adding spells to ei's yes i think thats asking waaaay too much. But i think Ernya loves this kind of feedback, she wont always do what we say, of course, but it lets her know what "WE" want as a community and what will make us buy things to keep the site going.

I do not think we ask for too much. We are given what the staff releases to us in a semi-normal basis. We don't have an overage of common updates, we get monthly items set at monthly times. Every once in a while we get special items.
Do I think that Ernya has been overly generous in the treatment of their users? Yes; but again- that is what draws and keeps a lot of the members here.

I beleive we do ask for alot but perhaps our suggestions makes the site grow. : ) I have seen a boost in users over the past few years and its awesome. This site is totally different than other sites because emy does infact listen to our suggestion in which other sites may or may not... The features she has at this moment are awesome yes we do sound like we want this and we want that but they are simply suggestions and emy is only listening and deciding on what exactly she would like to do with her site to make her users happy with it and to further populate the site. : ) Everything so far has been awesome other than the Spell thing I think that threw a few people off. But remember alot of other sites have people suggesting things all the time but perhaps the owners just dont want to or dont really see whatever the suggestion is. Here emy herself is awesome shes the only one that makes the decisions : ) <3

i do think that some people underestimate the amount of work that has to go into making ernya so awesome and ask for some truly ridiculous and useless stuff. i think its just what tends to happen when people get ideas they are really excited about. but of course some people do act like brats if something dont go their way. but they are really the minority so i would not use "we" or "us" to describe it. xD

This right here sums up why, i honestly don't expect or care if i ever get a maternity top. Sure I'll submit it every chance I get in the "user design contest" because that is the one place I can express that desire without having people able to bitch at me.
But yeah like a year and a half ago someone made a request for pregnant clothes, and it did result in a large drama, like seriously. Because so many people have the response of "I don't like it, so they should never make it" it made me realize that my faith in the open-mindedness of this community was misplaced.

Honestly, no? If you don't ask you won't ever get anything, so I don't see harm in asking. If nothing else we're showing proactive interest in the site's success by giving our opinions on what we like and don't like, and by extension what we want. If Emy didn't want us to ask about stuff or give our opinions on features she wouldn't have set up a feedback forum for us to do so, I can see why some feedback threads irritate her because they ask for excessive things or are unnecessarily rude, but otherwise I doubt she minds overmuch? Of course it's more work, and I understand that it can be hard, but in the end I think, or at least hope, she can see the good her extra work does in the overall community morale.
I think people get the wrong idea with the feedback threads asking for extra stuff. Some users have entitlement issues and I understand that they can be incredibly abrasive, but the vast majority of people posting with a pose interest don't expect or demand the pose. They are just politely asking if they may have it. There is definitely something wrong with expecting to get something when asked for, going back to the entitlement and ego issue, but there is nothing wrong with the simple act of wanting something and expressing that.
Think of it this way, reporting can be an issue on this site sometimes because people simply don't hit the report button and cause massive drama and general dissatisfaction with their forum experience. If they hit the report button someone could handle things before they escalated and the reporter would get the satisfaction of knowing something was done, even if they themselves got a warning as well, and people wouldn't be nearly so pissed off. If no one made a feedback thread to express a want for something, they would never get it, therefore causing dissatisfaction with their forum experience and bringing the overall morale of the forum down.

I don't think so because there is no harm in asking. If there is an request that Emy and the staff can't handle she will turn it down. I feel if she takes a request or a suggestion and it end up to be to much. Well that is not the person or users who requested doing. Its Emy's/staff for taking the suggestion. People are asking for things because they want the site to become awesome and grow stronger as a whole. And when the staff takes out feedback it makes users become more active and they might donate more. Overall asking for things makes users trust Ernya and that makes them stay. o wo
