Do you prefer to borrow books from the Library or do you prefer to own your own books?

I personally don't like to re-read fiction books so I use the library.

Usually I like to own my own books. If I'm having trouble finding a book, or want to read something I don't usually pick up, then I'll hit the library. Also, when I'm setting out to read a book that I'm not sure I'll end up finishing, I'll try using the library for it first, mainly because as much as I like owning books, I HATE owning books that I will never read.

I like either. So many pros and cons.
Pros with Library
free
3 weeks of lending
have almost all the books you'd like to read
free. xD
can recommend a book
don't like it? return it
Cons
only 3 weeks
renew is a hassle
don't have all the books you want
don't want to buy the book you recommend
holds
have to drive to library

Pro in buying
have it at home
have all the time in the world to read
makes a nice book collection
Cons
expensive
too spacey not enough space
no money

I think it depends on the book...
I like to use the library like I'd use the Blockbuster.
I go to libraries to find books that I may possibly buy. If I like them, I go to Barnes and Noble and buy them. If I don't like them, I return them when I get around to it...

I'm with Delilah on this one; there's pro's and con's for each. I like owning my own books especially so I can lend them to friends if I really enjoyed them, but I don't want to buy a book and it turn out to be crap >.>

One problem with where I live though - the library is going downhill. There are hardly any books I want to read there anymore and their non-fiction section is atrocious. It makes me sad.

I'll always check to see if a new book on my 'to-read' list is available at my library before hunting it down for a couple of quid on Amazon or eBay.

It is a pain when you are reading a trilogy and the library is missing the second book! xD
This has just happened to me.

I only buy the book if I know I'm going to read it repeatedly.
Usually that only includes series of books or certain authors
that I enjoy. If I don't know how well I'm going to like it
then I'll just borrow it from the library.

~ I personally don't like library books, I'ma bit of a freak when it comes to using stuff other people have had. With games its ok I can put them in the console and forget it... but some times library books have stains on or smell a bit weird... I honestly can't cope with that so I would rather just buy! xD

I prefer to own my own books, I like to see the collection building and I like being able to
pick up or drop the book at anytime without worrying about late fees or the hassle of re-borrowing.

I finially moved to the UK! Not sure how active I will be yet, though. Have a few laptop fixes to be done.

Currently Questing or Looking For
Seller(s) for an Undead (5k) and Black (30k) Spell!
I actually work at a library and I usually don't take out library books.
Its actually stressful for me I feel like I have a timeline in which I have
to read. And if its a new book then everybody wants it and as an employee you're
expected to not be "first".

I only take out books that are older and I don't have to stress over somebody
wanting it after me.

I almost always borrow from the library for the first read, because books are a bit expensive to buy just on the fly when I don't know if I'll like the story or not. The ones I buy are the ones that when I read them the first time I go "OMG I need to own this and read it every day. ♥"
Though I find myself buying without reading first lately... *shrugs*

I like the idea of libraries a lot, but in practicality I don't like making the trips to return and exchange books, or having a due date to extend.

When I have enough reason to think I'll enjoy a book, I love to own it even before I read it. I love being able to share a treasured book with someone close this way.

Currently selling: two Wizard Apprentices.

Verb all of the words.
I usually prefer to own my own books. If I suspect that I'll like a certain book, I'll buy it and read it, and if I discover that I'll never read it again, I donate it to charity if I can...

But other times I will use the library whenever I can't find a certain book at the store.

Looking for R0ckstar Hair.

Well, both, really.
I adore reading at libraries, first of all. Looking book-by-book on the shelves. I am not much of a fan of going back and forth from library to my house, but it is worth it. Good when I have nothing to do, and well, I don't get out much, so yeah.
It's great when I have no pocket money. The return policy, returning the book you are borrowing within x days, doesn't bother me at all. I'm a quick reader. I've got lots of time.

The joy of reading a book that I bought and own. Convenient, and great when I want to re-read something. I love collecting and organizing. I like looking back at the books I've read. I love it when my close friends borrow books from me.
