Just wanted to pop back in this thread and update: My fiance and I have agreed that since book ownership is so important to me, when we start looking to buy a house we will be entertaining exclusively houses with enough bedrooms tht we can set one room aside as our own family library. So I get the best of both worlds! ^^

I enjoy my own personal library since then I know if I lose or ruin a book (Which rarely happens) I can't blame anyone, but myself. Plus the libraries I have around me smell odd and I can't stand hard cover books. So I buy my own and have no middle man.

Now though since I have a Kindle I have no need to do either now.

I like to own my own books but one can't possible fit every book out there in a single house so the library can still be very useful. Also don't forget the study books. Libraries totally beat me there xD

I don't like to buy books if I've never read them before unless I REALLY like the author and have some faith that the book will be good. So I use the library quite a lot. Plus, having moved into two different third-floor apartments, I now think more carefully over whether I want to buy more books because moving boxes of books up flights of stairs REALLY sucks.

since it bores me lol. XD So I prefer my own books.

Personally, I prefer to buy my own books mainly because of my tight schedule, so I don't have enough time to go through the hassle checking books out of the library. Its also a hassle when I'm reading a series where they don't carry the volume I'm looking for.

It depends I guess.
I like to get new books that I want to read the day the come out, and the library usually doesn't have them, but now I have a kindle, and Out here (I dont know if there doing it everywhere) you can check out "Ebooks" through the library.

I prefer borrowing my books from the library. :) Not that there's anything wrong with owning books, but I think it's a waste of money--for me anyway. I'm one of those people who read a book once and have it trapped in their memory for all of eternity. I have no reason to read it again, so why purchase it? However, on the same token, I do like to re-read some of my books

I like owning my own books because I'd like to read them at my own pace.
I still go to the library. But sometimes I haven't even had the chance to finish the entire thing and it's already due back.

I love love LOVE the library, but there's just something about reading a book you own that makes the book's story just *that much more* special, enthralling, and appealing.

If I had unlimited funds....I would be drowning in books.

It really depends on how much I enjoy (or think I'll enjoy) the book. For the most part I like owning them.
