I don't remember how much I paid, just that it was on sale. My mom asked me to buy a laptop for my brother at Office Depot because of a sale, and I never had one before so I bought myself one too! I kind of prefer my desktop because I like the mouse better than the touchpad but it is so convenient to hold it in my lap in any room I want to be in. i got mine 3 years ago so it's kind of useless now, i got an acer and honestly i would have gotten something better (and a little smaller then a 17", i cant take it anywhere it's so big) but for 400$ i couldn't help myself, dont get something just because its cheaper it's not worth it in the long run.
I own a $600 Asus K something series. It was cheap and i got 50% back on it as a student. I got a malfunctioning one and had problems obtaining a warranty bu oh wells, otherwise, it's a pretty solid computer for it's price. I got it at the beginning of last year so 2 years old. It can play a few games like Borderlands smoothly at low settings. Though, it's heavy, then again most laptops are heavy for me.

I have a netbook that we use for watching videos in bed and for when I travel. I used it for internet access in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year when I was on vacation. It cost me about $300 from newegg.com

i actually have a netbook and it only cost me about $300. it was orignally for my mom, but she refuses to use it...
so i try to game on it xD
it can run minecraft and cosmic break :D

I'm pretty sure the one that my parents bought me a few years ago was roughly $600-$700. It's a Lenovo, and it's pretty crappy.
I mean, it works for some time, but that's only after you've worked out all of the painful kinks, and spend $200-$300 extra just to set it up and fix it. :|

I do not own one any longer, though I do hope that I can get another one soon. I would like one from Alienware, though that is not likely to happen anytime soon. Of course, if I do get something from Alienware then I am going to get a desktop first and then see if I can pull off getting a laptop on top of that. Their computers are just fantastic.
I think I paid about $500 for my current laptop oh... two years ago? It's a 16" HP. I also just recently bought a HP netbook for around $300 for college use.
I have some HP thing that I paid more than I wanted for. I like it. I bought it at Walmart, but I only bought this one because they didn't have the one that I wanted and offered me a discount on this one. It originally costed almost $700 but I got like over $100 off because of the whole them telling me they had it on the phone and then not actually having it when I came in fiasco.
Just call me Jess or Jessica, it makes things easier. :)
