View topic - Do you like the book or the movie

I have read plenty of stories, that were later made into movies; and I've got to say the movies always fell short to me. What about you guys? Do you like the books or the movies better?

If I watch the movie after I read the book, then the movie sucks.
If I watch movie before I read the book, then I have no desire to actually rad the book.

You are such a pervert!

Currently switching over to my mule. PM Orgasmic Nightmare if you want to talk to me :3
The books are always better than their film adaptions because films can only be a minimum of 2 hours and 45 minutes or so. Thus every single detail can not be kept although most could do better.

I however love the movie adaptions too in their own ways. In the cases of Holes, Bridge to Terabethia, and Tuck Everlasting I saw the films first and they were so good they made me want to read the books which were wonderful as well. Except Bridge to Terabethia, haven't gotten to it yet.

Vampire kisses are the sexiest!

No rude comments about this!
Usually, they have to condense the book to fit into the standard movie time, so a lot of the plot is lost. So I'd have to say I prefer the books to the movies.

Thank you for the Berry Fairy, Dark!
You're a brat and I'll get you for this :D
Almost always the book to the movie (or tv show) although sometimes its neat to see a change in the plot or new characters and to view the movie/tv show as a different thing separate from the book

It really depends on the movie, for me. I'm just going to use the Harry Potter series as an example for this, since its common.
I felt the first movie was better than the book, but the second book was better than the movie.
Third movie better than the book, fourth book better than the movie.
I didnt read the other books, so I cant judge those ones.

Most of the time I like the books better than the movie but sometimes the movie is better than the book, but not too often. And then there are some movies that are NOTHING like the book, I hate those. >=(

I don't know, it depends on which book/movie it is.

Some like the book better, some the movie. and some I like both the book and the movie in different ways. :/

Books. I love the books and usually get mad at the movie. I always read the book first if I know there is one. Some have made me really mad, like My Sisters Keeper and Lovely Bones. I am not much into that type of book or movie but I read the books because I got them for free and then watched the movies and I was so mad - My Sisters Keeper was the worst. I can say I get mad at the Twilight movies too. I can only think of one that I felt was decent and that would be Memories of A Geisha. Of course everyone has their own opinion. I read the books after I watch the movie sometimes if I don't catch it in time and I think back and get mad. The TV shows... I can't watch. I really just can't they upset me too much.

I like the books better. Movies from books always disappoint me.

Selling&Buying
Glitter&Grease is my mommy. :p

          Definitely the books.
The movie always leaves something out.
But I can say that some movies can interpret the book very well.

In other circumstances, the movie can be better than the book.
          It really depends sometimes.

I try to treat a book and a movie of a story as two separate things so that I am not disappointed in any differences in translating it from one to the other.

Usually when you compare books and movies, you're left unhappy and unfulfilled as they are two entirely different mediums depicting the same or similar story. The biggest reason for this is that movies are insanely short and a lot of things a person reads, and deems important to themselves, may be cut or changed in the movie to make room for a more cohesive movie.

Exhibit A would be peeves the poltergeist, from the Harry Potter franchise whom was an important figure in the books, but was not at all included in the movie series.

Another example would be the lord of the Rings, three books in three movies. Able to create a world of beauty and imagery beyond compare, yet changes were needed to be made in order for the movies to portray the story.

It depends for me.
I would say generally that books are better than the movies, as -like others have said- you can just fit more rich detail and character development in a book.
However, there have been a few odd films which I have actually preferred to the book, though I can only think of one particular example at the moment though, which is The Princess Bride.
It's a brilliant film which I loved as a child and rediscovered as an adult, but when I finally found the book and went to read it I found that the film was pretty much word perfect, except for one slight difference - the author (or "translator", although I'm really not sure if he was actually a translator or the author added in the character of the translator in OOC comments to add to the story?). This small change actually ruined the book for me as it made the author come across as an adulterous pig and just left a figurative bad taste in my mouth after reading =/
