View topic - Do you like the book or the movie

It depends for me. Oftentimes the movie does fall short of the book because it leaves too much out or changes too much for the worse. But other times, I think the movie is very faithful to the book and does it justice. And occasionally, I think the movie is just plain better than the book.

I didn't like how much was left out of the Harry Potter 1-6 movies or the changes that were made. I didn't like the changes that were made in the Frenchman's Creek movie. I think the BBC Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility were very well done. I like the Pride and Prejudice movie as much as the book, and I like the Sense and Sensibility movie more than the book. I think they did a good job with To Kill a Mockingbird as well. And I prefer the movie versions of The Man in the Iron Mask, Nicholas Nickleby, and Les Miserables.

The only movie from a book I ever liked was The Time Traveler's Wife.

Usually when a book is made into a film, it usually just leaves me very unsatisfied. I myself prefer the book over the movies. If I do go and see a film adaptation of a book, I try and read the book or books first if I can. Usually with movies, even though they're only an hour to two hours long, they leave a lot of stuff out or change something altogether. The only film version that I'm aware of that stays true to the book is 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.

Personally, I like books better because it explains more of the details.

I usually just end up getting angry at movies for being so different, even though I know it's usually because time constraints. But still, come on!

Honestly, it depends on the book/movie.

There's times where i love the book and think the movie sucks, times where i love the movie but think the book sucks.. Then there are times where i adore both!

More often then not I prefer the book as the movie would be condensed. Tho there are a few exceptions. Disney I always prefered the movies, and Lord of the Rings was such an epic moive trilogy that you don't care that half of the books were missing... Like Bombadil and the Scorging of the shire(tho i would have really like to shee the shire bit, since it was previewed in the Mirror)

Books > Movies of said books.
Books > Movies of said books> Books made from movies.
I don't really understand why people who make movies from books (especially really popular books like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson) make the movies so very different! I feel that while some things are impossible to convey on the big screen, a lot of their fanbase is lost with every major plot divergence.

That is a hard call for me as I am a book lover and also a movie lover.

There are times that the movie falls so short of the book it almost makes me feel as if I should have never seen or read either of them. But on that same note there are movies that personify the book so well that it feels like it was worth it putting in the hours to read the book and see the film.

Movies have such a condensed number of minutes to show what a book could show you in hundreds of pages. Also everyones imaginations are so different that I could see a movie based on a book and love it while my sister could hate it.

So I guess after all my rambling I would say that I like both, because no matter the order I always try to read the book and watch the movie to compare the two in my own mind.

It depends but usually the books are much better. There is only one case I can think of where the movie waa much better and another where the movie was better in some ways. The first instance is I Am Number Four. I watched the movie and liked it then decided to read the book. The book was HORRIBLE. It was like it wad written by a fifth grader. The other instance is the Harry Potter series. The books were much bwtter in many ways but the movies were better with characterization.

Personally I prefer to watch the film and then read the books because the film with always, always ruin the book. For example I read Twilight and I loved it but the moment I watched the first film it ruined all the films and the books for me because it was nothing like I imagined it was going to be. On the other hand, I saw Stormbreaker before I read the books and I loved the film and so, when I finally read the book I didn't stop reading until I bought the latest and last book. I hope to eventually buy all of the series as the author is incredibly talented!!

I also saw the first Harry Potter, when I was 7, before I read it, also around 7ish/8, and that series turned out amazing. So I think it may depend on the Author and the Director!

Well for me the books awe always better, you get lost in books you feel like your right there with the people in the book. You can see the people the way you want the way you think they should be you can use you imagination. In the movies you see the directors view of the book. i like making it what i want to be.

I see what you mean and I like that too but I also enjoy seeing other peoples views. I do admit that the reason I hate Twlight is because the directors version was nothing like mine oops
