I have been using a website I can't name (because it's against site rules) to earn game gift cards in order to obtain hearts since I cannot afford to donate. It takes a lot of time to build up points, though D:

If you go to the Donation Page, search your ZIP code in the "Ultimate Game Card" part, then hit "Buy Online" at the top, you can then either purchase a game card with money or hit "Ultimate Points" near the top to earn one for free. ^^
This has been brought up before and most people are against it. Based on the need for money to the site, unless they get a ton for having ads that give offers to earn hearts that will make a lot of cash for the site, I don't really see it happening.

Ugh if they brought in those surveys i'd totally leave this site, its the one thing i love about here, you know we dont have to worry about ads or popups or those stupid surveys that half the time you arent even qualified for, or give you virus's.
I think the system we have now is fine, its not that hard to build up some gold. I think you need to extend more in your writing in posts that'll earn you 30g per post like right now im gonna get 30g for this post.

As cool as it would be to 'earn' hearts, as far as I'm aware the sites that have those sponsors aren't in control of the offers that are displayed, and often there are links to unsafe sites and viruses.

I've made tons of hearts without ever paying a cent. So much so that sometimes I feel like I'm stealing income from the site. Just post and work for it and look out for sellers and soon enough you'll have your hearts. Unlike Gaia, who's cash system is soulbound, we can sell, buy, and trade our hearts in the exchange. Therefore, in my honest opinion, there really is no need for this type of feature regardless of how big the site gets unless they decide to soulbind our hearts.

Offers would pay Ernya for people doing surveys. Sure, they don't always work and hard to credit but they can be helpful.
Anyways, the site Zeph is talking about is Swagbucks. You can earn credits there, and save up credits to buy a gaming card to use on Ernya. I've been personally using the site for a few months now and usually can get four or so cards every month from there.

One of the things I love about Ernya is the complete lack of ads that you see clogging up other sites. The sponsored offers go hand in hand with that. It feels much less corporate to me this way, and Ernya's still bringing in the money they need to operate, so I'd rather not see any of that change.
Although, I want to thank everyone else for bringing up the Swagbucks thing, I hadn't been aware of it before now, but I think I'll go try it out, thanks!

If there were surveys and the like for hearts, the site would not survive. Money is hard enough to come by and donations are far and few between and the costs of running a site like this are monstrous. The site wouldn't survive if there were hearts given away for free through surveys.

Nova: Wouldn't the survey things pay to be advertised on Ernya? I was under the impression that while we're getting free hearts that the site is still getting money from the sponsors that give out the hearts (or whatever the currency may be).
Perhaps Ernya wouldn't get as much money from the sponsors as it would if people bought the hearts through donations, they may actually end up better off, because those sites would be paying to have their surveys featured on Ernya and people who couldn't normally donate can take part - assuming that all those who bought hearts through donations would still donate as much as before.
I am against the survey things on Ernya, but I still think there may be a way Eryna could profit from them.

Considering the uproar that happened the last time this topic was brought up, my guess is that Ernya would likely loose more money than gain since there are people who would up and quit. A lot of people are currently on hiatus or have gone back into hiding while waiting for the new event. Currently those that would pay Ernya for the surveys, most likely would not be able to make up for amount of money being lost.
In retrospect, of course there will always be those drawn to free 'surveys' and the like, but considering the state of the 'right now' the site can't really afford it. Maybe down the road? Who knows, but not any time soon.
If there were survey things on here, my guess is they wouldn't be more than a few hearts here and there as when you buy hearts, they're already at a discounted price when you purchase them in a bundle, and you also save money by buying the monthly bundles that have the spells/di's/evolving items, etc. And since hearts only cost between 250-300 gold a pop, there's really no reason to have surveys on here right now.
Let's not forget that there was an event recently and another event coming up. That's a lot of money to be invested into the site at this point and time that is going to the users as free items which the site will not make anything out of. So, as I stated above in this singular post, maybe down the road, but definitely not now. My original post only applies to the current state of the site. Not the future.
