View topic - Christians. So forceful.

It's called witnessing.

I was raised in a Lutheran upbringing and we were taught to witness to people with no faith.

As an adult I am no longer an active Lutheran, I am agnostic..

But, it's what you learn when you're growing up in religion that makes you the type of person you are. If you are brought up in a strong religious background, then you are told that you are to be a disciple and to witness to people.

/shrug

I wouldn't say this is singled to CHRISTIANS only, but.. yeah. I have seen more Mormons than Christians being pushy about their faith.. Or LDS people.

I have to point out that this isn't a universal thing among all Christians, while Christians are asked to seek converts they hardly go about it in the same way. Additionally, there are plenty of other groups that are not Christian but actively seek converts in precisely the same manner.

I suggest that there is a common cause that is primarily human in how people approach the issue as opposed to something specific about being Christian here. Besides, given that there is a solid Christian majority in America and such behavior is significantly less common than that it would be fair to couch this discussion in other terms.

I dunno where you live, or what you were watching. I live in Nevada, and Christians out here are very decent. My sister is a Christian, and I have met her Pastor. He is actually really nice. He was even telling me, when having a conversation with people, he doesn't bring up religion at all, unless asked about it, or if he is asked what he does for a living.

The bad ones, are Mormons, its there life mission to knock on your door every week and bother to read you there bible.

Not all Christians fit the description that you've posted, but I have ran into a few that do. I am an atheist, and a person who I knew said that I was blind, and how they hope to help me see the 'light' someday. It wasn't the fact that the "I believe in Christianity, so it must be true," attitude that irritated me, but rather the fact that someone I knew wouldn't accept my views. I haven't done much research on Christianity, so I cannot really judge them, but to group all Christians into one type of human would certainly not be accurate.

(about some comments from the 1st page)
Careful with the generalizations.
Christianity had a dark period in time, it is now long gone.
It is people's choice to believe in whatever they want to and Christians do tend to "show a path" to others. One idea doesn't contradict the other.
Christians are supposed to reflect in their daily lifes the beliefs they adopt, as they are actually supposed to believe in what they affirm they do. As any other (christian or non-christian).

And Buddhism is not a religion.
