What is this event it for?
Well, I volunteer for the hospital in my town. Cancer has affected my family a lot, nearly everyone in my family who died has all died of cancer, my boss knows this. She also knows that I love avatar communities, and that avatar communities could move mountains if they tried.
So, she asked me one day if I could hold an event on one or two of the sites. And, if I am able to get enough people to participate, she will donate one dollar to cancer research per person who enters.
As of Friday, February 10th, I am changing the event from Cancer Awareness Week to Cancer Awareness Month. The participants list will not change and more events have been added for the weeks to come.

NO DONATING TO ME. Donating to me doesn't really help the Event, just participating helps.
Be nice, please. We don't need trolls or bullies. Cancer is a hard enough topic as it is.

How to participate
Each person who enters will be asked to have their avatar bald for that week.
Why bald? Because cancer requires chemo therapy, chemo therapy makes your hair gradually fall out.
Is there anything else you can do? The only thing I asked of you is to participate and get others to participate as well. Cancer is a serious disease, I guarantee the innocent people who have fallen victim to cancer would appreciate any effort anyone puts into it.

You know how cancer patients usually become really pale and tired looking?
Well, for week 2 of Cancer Awareness Month, participants (previous or new) are asked to have pale avatars. It does not have to be the pale skin color itself, you may have light blush or something to make your avatar look paler.

February 19th to 25th
Every cancer (known cancer, at least) has a colored ribbon.
In honor of those ribbons, participants (previous or new) are asked to have the color of a ribbon, or more than one ribbon, on their avatar for the week. If you'd like to explain why you chose the color, feel free to do so, but it's not necessary.

February 26th to March 3rd
Due to this event lacking participants, this week I ask that EVERY person who looks at this thread fill out a participants form. You don't have to change your avatar, and it'll only take MAXIMUM 5 minutes to fill out. It at least shows you care, and it's the least any one of us can do.
And for avatars, any participants willing to change their avatars for the event, it'll be bald week again! Same as week 1; avatars will be bald and the creativity for bald avatars is endless!

I don't have cancer, and no one that I have been close to has had cancer. My grandfather died of a brain tumor, but that was long before I was born. A couple of great aunts died of cancer a few years ago, but I don't think I ever met any of them. I have HPV, which can cause cervical cancer. So my doctor is keeping a close eye on me, and I have had a few biopsies. But everything is looking ok so far.

My little brother was born with cancer. Shortly after being born, he started to get really sick and we didn't know what it was. He was in and out of hospitals but we got no answers. When he was 18 months, he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. For the next 2 years we were in and out of the hospital for operations, check ups, all sorts of things. Then when he was 5 years old, they thought he may have had cancer again... this time skin cancer. He had a very suspicious mole from his head removed. Luckily it was nothing. Then, a year ago at 11 years old, we had yet another scare. All the symptoms from when he had his first cancer came back. Fortunately, it hadn't come back, but they found another mole that was super suspicious. He had it removed, and the test came back. Turns out it was a dysplastic nevi, which to my understanding is a step below melanoma. Since we have a family history of melanoma, he is at high risk of developing it. It's just really sad that someone so young would have to deal with so much.
Also, my grandpa has had cancer 4 times, 1 recently and another currently. He had anal and colon cancer, that he had treatment for last year. Now he has a skin cancer in his hand. He may have to have his hand amputated if they aren't able to remove the cancerous cells.
There have also been tons of other instances of cancer in my family, and many have died from it. Just none as close as these two have hit me.

I lost an aunt that I was very close to to lung cancer. She fought it hard but they couldn't help her in time. It spread to her spine and her brain. My mother's side of the family has had history of cancer as well as my father's. My grandmother who passed away this summer with prelukemia. My older sister has a form of cancer in her throat. I have lost touch with her and have not been given the details of the cancer. My mom had a scare recently of a cancer near and above her eye. The results came back that it wasn't anything serious but the possibility is still rather upsetting. My aunt Betty has been battling breast cancer for quite sometime, she has been doing well for a while but recently we found out that the cancer has come back.
that is nice..at least those people who always forgot to care to those people who has this cancer will be remembered and will be caed of again..even for a while.

My aunt died due to Lymphoma. she's been loyal to the hospital since she knew that she was diagnosed with cancer. but shortly after 2 years, she died, and i saw it with my own eyes. Now, i was recently told that my best friend whom i've been together with for 15 years is diagnosed with leukimia. i've been with her 24/7. she's been loosing hairs and her parents decided to drop her out of school. she's stressed, cried a lot and would try to cut her hands off. thankfully she's ok now.

HAS CANCER AFFECTED YOU? My maternal grandfather died on March 16, 1999. He had lymphoma. On November 22, 2011... my aunt Darcy passed away from cancer. I believe it was ovarian cancer, but she never specified. Melanoma cancer runs in my family and I'm going to get tested for it. I have a few beauty marks/moles that look like they could be malignant. Breast cancer also runs in my family. My mother recently found a lump, but she refuses to get a follow up exam done on it.
