View topic - Birthday Blues

So tomorrow is my birthday. Today I have to go and renew my license. My dad is paying for it and said he'll consider it a bday present.

I am terrified of driving. I hate it, it stresses me the fuck out. I honestly wouldn't care if he didn't get me anything at all. I just hate how every year shit goes wrong around my birthday, either with my car, or something else, and my parents help me out with it and consider it my birthday present.

For once it would have been nice to have a nice birthday. I have helped my parents a lot as well over the years. I've had jobs off and on since I was in the 7th grade. They have often asked to borrow money, and I always tell them they can have it. They are under no obligation whatsoever to pay me back. I mean they are my parents so I don't feel like they owe me anything.

But when I lend them money or buy them something they need for the house or help them out with stuff on or around their birthdays I don't say, "Oh consider that your bday gift". Chances are if I have cash I get them something they would enjoy.

I'd even be happy with maybe just a nice little cheap celebration here or something but I doubt anything will happen.

Aw, so sad! My dad says stupid stuff like that too, but he never means it. I hope you have a good birthday this year, no matter what. Happy early birthday!

. . . you just ate a roadroller.
Yes... and?
It was my roadroller.
Again... yes... and?
I liked that roadroller.
... Get to your point
YOU ATE MY ROADROLLER.
Do something nice for yourself this year! Ask them if they can watch your offspring tomorrow as another part of your birthday gift, then take the day to lounge around, do some arting, watch trashy TV, read a great book, do your nails, take a two-hour bath with a glass of wine, spend the day on Ernya telling everyone it's your birthday so you get free gifts... anything you can imagine doing that you don't get to do because you're an adult with responsibilities. The possibilities are limitless.

You could clean out your closet and then drag your favourite blanket in there with you and take a nap...

Dress up like a rockstar with huge hair and sunglasses and go walk around your grocery store and see if anyone whispers....

Set up a blog and Twitter account and set a goal to have at least three followers by sundown...

Gather up all the scrap paper in your house, rip it in to small pieces, paint them each a different colour, and make a collage for the baby's room...

Search your couch for spare change, deposit it into your bank account (they'll look at you funny; do it anyway) and use Paypal to convert it into hearts...

Use the day to train yoursef to write or draw with your other hand...

Anything you can think of. Give yourself the gift of an entire day to be fun and spontanteous and NOT productive. Forget all about the world.

That's usually how kids work. I know that's what my little one does.

Agh, I understand the stress thing with driving. I just don't enjoy it for the most part.

I usually try to keep to myself when I do remember my birthday to avoid conflict. I don't pay much attention to my birthday, really, I've even gone a few years forgetting a whole year's passed since my last one. But when they do come around, my parents tend to use that time to start and overcomplicate things as well as add more tension to our relationship. I think because of that I don't really expect anything out of the day aside from facebook birthday spam, haha.

Thank you all so much! I am going to try and do what I can for myself tomorrow, starting with sleeping in!

Savagery that sounds like a lot of fun!

I just got my new license and I am amazed, we were in and out so quickly. I've never had such a short visit to the DMV before. My daughter took my old license. XD
