Anastasia is a great movie. Growing up I loved watching it. Also growing up I wasn't too concerned with what was Disney and what wasn't. If I liked the movie, I watched it.
yeah i believe in you..Anastasia is not really from Disney family...she is just some plain old cartoons too..but she really look like one of the Princess..hehehe
Never watched the movie though I own it... I knew it wasn't Disney which is why I didn't watch it as a kid. Fox Productions did make some good films though...
Even though I know that Anastasia wasn't made by Disney, something about it just reminds me so much of all the Disney movies.
The songs, the spunky female character, everything about it really.
I watched it for the first time a few days ago. Of course I was always aware it wasn't a Disney film (was very surprised how much it resembled one though).
Story-wise, it's not baaaad per se, it's nothing great. The animation itself though, is quite good, but does falter at a few spots. Especially towards the end, the final "epic" battle is extremely hard to follow, and just poorly put together (not to mention how unbelievable it is for Dimitri to fall off that giant horse and seem to hit the ground so lightly!).
I disagree a little bit, it may be true that mainly female would be interested in it, but this is not entirely the case; after all, I am male and I went to see it when I was younger and although I may not have been too interested in it back then, I probably would be now. So I would have to disagree where you make it seem like a chick flick that only female would want to see; but at the same time I realize that I am in the minority and most males probably would not care to watch it.
I always assumed it was Disney too, but to be honest I never really liked it all that much. The movie itself wasn't that interesting, and when I was old enough to read books on the actual events surrounding the Russian Revolution I found that a lot more exciting than the kids movie version.
Not news to me, but I'm a bit of a animation nerd. So, I know my movies/studios fairly well. Partly why the style resembles Disney so strongly (aside from a formula that does work fairly well), is for the fact the director/producer (Don Bluth) is a former Disney animator.
So the art definitely has that Disney feel to it. But I also think it has it's own personal charm to it in it's own right. I really have enjoyed much of Bluth's work. (Thumbelina is my personal favorite though, don't care how superduper cheesy it is).
However, I do also get a tad annoyed when people mix in any fairly popular or well known animated films into Disney. Not everything comes from Disney y'know.
Anyway, I still have the same views today as I did as a kid, if it's drawn and moves? Man, I'm so watchin' it.
I don't really care who or what it's by honestly. It was a movie I enjoyed very much when I was little, and I loved the art. It's very fun to look at, and it's entertaining to watch. I might actually watch it again soon.
